Shared note | Didn't want her husband's children from his first marriage. The two older boys had to leave Highbury College. They found themselves lodgings and worked as waiters. The youngest boy ran away to sea. The step-daughter was forced to work as an unpaid servant. A daughter was born from this second marriage, but before long the father died as well. The step-daughter was put into an orphanage and the second wife kept all her late husband's assets for herself and her own daughter. |
